FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Statement in support of LGBTI Rights in India and Internationally
The International Academy of Family Lawyers supports the legal progress of decriminalisation of gay sexual relations and the repeal of section 377 of the India Penal Code. We further reaffirm our support of efforts towards full equality of the LGBTI community in issues concerning marriage, families, parenting and domestic violence in India and throughout the world.
At its annual meeting in New Delhi, India, 14-18 September 2016, the International Academy of Family Lawyers issued the above press release articulating its position of support for LGBTI Rights in India and internationally. This statement of support follows the organisation's annual Audrey Ducroux Memorial Lecture presented by renown Indian attorney Mr. Saurabh Kirpal, an advocate practicing in the Supreme Court of India who has been involved in petitions challenging anti-sodomy laws pending before its Supreme Court.
The IAFL LGBT Committee has worked hand in hand with the Executive Committee and Continuing Legal Education Committee in raising awareness, educating its members and in providing this public statement of support concerning LGBT matters. The IAFL's CLE efforts in this area continue.
IAFL is an international organisation of over 730 practising lawyers from 54 countries who are recognised by their peers as the most experienced and skilled family law specialists in their respective countries. See www.iafl.com
