Melissa A. Kucinski works as co-counsel, consultant, and mediator on the international dimensions of family law matters, joining lawyers' existing teams - referring counsel retain the client and lead the matter, while Melissa handles the international layer. That layer typically includes Hague Abduction Convention cases, international relocation disputes, cross-border custody, access and relocation, recognition and enforcement of foreign orders, multi-jurisdictional divorces, jurisdictional analysis, diplomatic immunity, and international service of process. She also mediates cross-border family disputes, working with both parties and their respective counsel to resolve matters. Melissa is a long-standing member of the U.S. Department of State's Advisory Committee on Private International Law and has served on multiple delegations to The Hague Conference. She sits on the Uniform Law Commission's Joint Editorial Board for Uniform Family Laws — one of only a handful of practicing lawyers to do so. She co-authored the West Academic textbook on international family law in U.S. courts. She designed and has taught the International Family Law course at George Washington University Law School since 2010, and holds a master's degree in cross-cultural mediation and crisis negotiation from American University's School of International Service.
