Tim is an experienced lawyer specializing in family law, divorce mediation, and collaborative divorce and partner of SmeetsGijbels. He assists entrepreneurs, high net worth individuals, expats, top athletes, and artists in complex (international) divorces and related matters, such as the property settlement of a marriage or cohabitation, alimony, and care arrangements. His expertise lies primarily in the field of matrimonial property law, both nationally and internationally. He has an advisory and litigation practice, in which he also provides second opinions. He regularly acts as a sounding board for financials and family offices on family law issues. In this context, he advises both domestic and international clients on drafting or amending Dutch prenuptial agreements and wills (estate planning). He is a trained divorce mediator with and member of the vFAS (Dutch Association of Family and Inheritance lawyers and mediators) after completing the educational course cum laude. In addition, he regularly publishes articles in academic journals and gives lectures on matrimonial property law and marriage mediation to lawyers, civil-law notaries, and tax specialists. He strives to resolve disputes outside of court as much as possible.
