Details

Registration is open for the IAFL Introduction to European Family Law Conference. This one and half day conference will be held at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 October. The conference will be organised in collaboration with Bucerius Law School and held at Bucerius Law School, Jungiusstraße 6, 20355 Hamburg. Click here to view the location.

It is not intended for IAFL Fellows, but rather for family lawyers up to ten years qualified who practice in European Chapter jurisdictions and who are considering applying for fellowship and want more of a feel for the IAFL. It will be informative and enjoyable and will provide excellent networking opportunities for delegates. 

Registration Fees

Due to limited space and high demand, only one lawyer per London firm will be permitted to register for this meeting.

Tiered/Reduced Registration fee: US$224 for lawyers from jurisdictions that qualify for IAFL Tiered Dues*

 *Tiered Dues/ Registration Fees: The IAFL is committed to expanding its reach in jurisdictions that are currently under and un-represented within its Fellowship and to making meetings more accessible to all. With these aims in mind, the IAFL is pleased to offer reduced registration fees to attendees (Fellows and Lawyer Guests) from jurisdictions that qualify for IAFL Tiered Dues. Education Program 

  • Thursday 23 October 10:00-17:30hrs
  • Friday 24 October 9:00-12:30hrs

The conference will provide an overview of a variety of 'hot' topics of European Family Law. 

  • International Child Abduction and the Protection of Children - Prof. Dr. Henrike von Scheliha will present a recent case and related court orders, as well as relevant aspects of German constitutional law. Panel discussion to follow
  • The connection between international family law and immigration law - this panel will address frequently asked questions, such as:
    • Is a marriage which ends abroad (including religious marriages) valid?
    • Adopting and fostering in family reunification
    • International child abduction in compliance with a deportation order
  • Jurisdiction for divorce proceedings in different systems: Forum convenience vs. EU regulations
  • Maintenance and other financial consequences of a divorce: jurisdiction, applicable law and cross border enforcement
  • Presentation by the winner of the IAFL European Chapter Young Lawyers' Award 2025
