"The Bank of Mum and Dad-do they get priority in family law property settlements?”
“In many parts of the world house prices have been increasing at a faster rate than wages and in order to get into the housing market, adult children are getting assistance from the Bank of Mum and Dad. The panellists will discuss:
- Do debts to Mum and Dad get any priority?
- Does it make a difference to a property settlement outcome if it is a gift or a loan?
- Can gifts become loans and loans become gifts?
- Does the law in your jurisdiction provide for the failure of a gift pre-condition?
- How to protect advances if acting for mum and dad.”
Moderator - Jamie Burreket – Australia
Panelists - Lisette Dupré, (new fellow from England) Jonathan Mok (Hong Kong) Amanda Donovan (New Zealand)
