A webinar presented by the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Committee
On the 25th of November 2025, the Court of Justice of the European Union gave a preliminary ruling answering a legal query from the Polish Supreme Administrative Court regarding the lack of transcription into the Polish Civil register of the same sex-marriage contracted under German law. This ruling, along with Coman, Pancharevo, Mirin, and the most recent Shipova, should shape the legal status of Queer Families and Individuals across Europe. On the 20th of March 2026, the Polish Supreme Administrative Court gave a ruling which not only fully follows the CJEU, but also reasons it within the Polish constitutional protection of rights and freedoms. Yet it remains to be seen how effective these rulings are going to be in practical terms.
