Ian M. Solloway has been practicing family law in Quebec since 1975, bringing nearly five decades of experience to complex family law matters. He joined Goldwater Droit as Counsel in 2025.
Leadership & Recognition
Ian has held numerous leadership positions within the Quebec legal community. He served as Chair of the English-Speaking Section of the Montreal Bar Association for eight consecutive years (2009-2017) and currently holds the title of Chair Emeritus (since November 2023). He was President of the Lord Reading Law Society (2002-2003) and chaired its 60th Anniversary celebrations in 2008. His contributions have been recognized with the Mérite of the Bar of Montreal (2015), the Lord Reading Law Society Past-Presidents' Medal (2014), and the D'Arcy-McGee National Assembly Citizenship Medal (2016). He was also recently honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the English-Speaking Section of the Bar of Montreal (May 2025).
Teaching & Thought Leadership
As a lecturer in Family Law at McGill University's Department of Continuing Education (1990-95) and author of the "Family Law Matters" newsletter, Ian has been a frequent speaker on family law topics throughout his career. He participated on the Organizing Committee for the World Cities Bar Leaders Conference in 2011.
Professional Affiliations
Ian maintains active membership in the Québec Bar Association (Family Law Section), Canadian Bar Association (Family Law Section), American Bar Association (Family Law Section), and the Association of Family Law Lawyers of Québec. He served on the Liaison Committee with the Superior Court in Family Matters (1998-2000, 2004-2005).
