Dr Ian Sumner, Professor of Law at Tilburg University, will give a one-hour lecture on the dramatic scale of European family law developments since 1986.

Europeans have been free, as has been famously said, to live, love and work across borders thanks to the EU project. Family law regulations have developed hand in hand with this through EU and other instruments.

Dr Sumner will explain these changes, and put them in their social and political context. He will also look at future issues and challenges which will need new solutions.

At the end of the talk there will be a Q and A discussion led by him with contributions from Emma Hatley, Alice Meier-Bourdeau and Rachael Kelsey - all current or recent chapter presidents as they look ahead to IAFL’s future in Europe.
