IAFL on British EU Referendum Result

Posted: 28 Jun 2016

William Longrigg, President of the International Academy of Family Lawyers, says:

The International Academy of Family Lawyers has built up extensive European and other   international family law contacts over thirty years. The co-operation which has been fostered will be immensely valuable as we work out the likely consequences of the EU referendum result. That collaboration will continue.

There are European instruments regulating aspects of family law which we have been working very successfully with for a number of years. We don’t know yet what will replace those regulations but nothing will change for some time and this is all to be negotiated. At the moment we are coming to terms with the result of the referendum and cannot predict future developments with any certainty.

Most importantly the International Academy of Family Lawyers is resolved to continue striving to achieve what is best for family law and for families.

William Longrigg is a partner in the family law team of Charles Russell Speechlys, London and is President of the International Academy of Family Lawyers (IAFL).

IAFL is a worldwide association of around 720 practising lawyers who are recognised by their peers as the most experienced and skilled family law specialists in their respective countries. It was formed in 1986 to improve the practice of law and administration of justice in the area of divorce and family law throughout the world.
