Diana Bryant AO, Chief Justice of the Family court of Australia discussed the following 3 topics:
- Australia/US cases and issues in relation to the Abduction Convention including direct judicial communication.
- Australia's experience with the 1996 Child Protection Convention which although not yet ratified by the US, obliges member states to apply it in certain circumstances anyway; discussion included a case study discussing these themes.
- The work of the Working Group (which Justice Bryant chairs) tasked by the Permanent Bureau to develop a Guide to Good Practice for Article 13(b) - the grave risk defense.
